After DNA isolation from a peripheral blood sample, polymerase chain reaction using a custom TaqMan Genotyping assay (Thermo Fisher Scientific, USA) was used. This assay uses fluorescently-labeled probes to detect the presence of a single point mutation (G to A at position 1691) of the human Factor 5 gene.
