Speech and language services for preschool-aged children.
Preschool Speech Language Services is a Community Rehabilitation, single discipline service for preschool age children (0-5 years) with primary speech and language delays/disorders. Our service model is toward a preschool speech language program that provides multidisciplinary support and coaching to families of young children (ages 0-5 years) with speech and communication challenges.
Services include the following:
- parent and caregiver education – through parent groups and upstream prevention and promotion with community partners
- supported transition to preschool/ school
Parent groups will provide knowledge and ideas to boost your child’s speech, language, and communication development. Parents who attend the group often feel confident to start using some of the strategies and tips at home with their child right away.
Follow-up sessions that are booked for you and your child together and are meant to follow the parent group. Your SLP will show and demonstrate for you some simple but powerful strategies and activities that best support your child’s communication every day. These coaching sessions will help you to build communication activities into your daily routines so that it becomes part of the way you communicate with your child. We know that children who have delays need even more opportunities for communication and interaction than children with normal language development and families have the most opportunity to make an impact.
