Lung Transplant - Southern Alberta Transplant Program

Provides assessment, work-up, and follow-up for lung transplant patients south of Red Deer.

This service provides:

  • work-up for assessment of eligibility for patients with end-stage lung disease
  • education for patients with end-stage lung disease
  • waitlist work-up for lung transplant surgery
  • monitoring of patients on the transplant wait list
  • monitoring and treatment of post transplant patients

Lung transplant surgery is performed in Edmonton. Patients are followed in collaboration with the Edmonton Lung Transplant Program. Pediatric patients are followed at the Alberta Children's Hospital.

Service Providers May Include
dermatologists, dietitians, endocrinologists, pathologists, pharmacists, physiologists, registered nurses (RNs), social workers, transplant pulmonologists, transplant surgeons
Eligibility

Clients must:

  • be able to follow a complex medical treatment plan
  • be emotionally stable
  • have realistic attitudes about illness and the results of the transplant surgery

Following assessment the Edmonton Lung Transplant Program will decide if the client is suitable for transplant
