Provincial Family Violence Treatment Program

Provides assessment and treatment for individuals who have been mandated through the court system, community corrections (probation), or Children and Family Services for charges related to intimate partner violence.

Participants in the Provincial Family Violence Treatment Program (PFVTP) will engage in assessment and treatment services to address factors that contribute to intimate partner violence (IPV). This service is free of cost and offers an average of 2 - 5 sessions of individual counselling plus a 14 - 16 week group treatment where clients work with facilitators to explore the underlying causes of IPV and develop strategies to promote healthy relationships. Depending on the community, services may be delivered virtually, in-person, or both. PFVTP is provided by Counselling Alberta (Calgary Counselling Centre) and contracted service providers in collaboration with community partners through Recovery Alberta such as FAOS and FACS, law enforcement, crown prosecutors, Probation, Children’s Services, and victim services as part of a coordinated community response to IPV.
