Adult Day Programs

Adult Day Programs (ADPs) are for adults over the age of 18 who require services to help maintain or improve their physical and cognitive abilities and support them to remain active in the community.

Adult Day Programs (ADPs) are for adults over the age of 18 who require services to help maintain or improve your physical and cognitive function. These programs provide structured goal-oriented group activities that foster social interaction, recreation, exercise, health monitoring, assistance with activities of daily living and respite support.

When attending an Adult Day Program a nutritious lunch and snack is provided.

Adult Day Programs also offer professional and/or personal care support depending upon the individual's need and the type of program.

Clients attend once or twice weekly from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Service Providers May Include
health care aides (HCAs), licensed practical nurses (LPNs), occupational therapists (OTs), physical therapists, recreational therapists, therapist assistants, therapy aides
Eligibility

Adults who:

  • are over the age of 18 and live in the community
  • have a valid Alberta health care card
  • have a primary care provider (physician or nurse practitioner)
  • have consented to attending and participating in the program on a weekly basis for a minimum of one day a week
Service Access

To enroll in an adult day program, contact your Home Care case manager or call Community Care Access.


Wait Times

To see if an adult day program is right for you, speak with your AHS case manager. Once a referral is received and there is a space in the Program, the Program site staff will contact you to discuss details for admission. Wait times will vary depending on the demands for the program you are waiting for. They will provide information on days you can attend, program schedule and details on services.

Fees

Adult day programs charge a fee of $15 per visit, which includes a meal and/or a snack while you are at the program. You are responsible for arranging transportation to and from the Program.
