Audiology Services

Community Audiology within the Calgary Zone provides a full range of diagnostic audiological and specialized services for infants, children, adults and seniors.

Centralized referral intake and scheduling is utilized for Community Audiology which includes multiple sites:

  • Richmond Road Diagnostic and Treatment Centre (RRDTC)
  • Arthur Child Cancer Care (ACCC)
  • Foothills Medical Centre (FMC)
  • South Health Campus (SHC)
  • Airdrie Community Health Centre (ACHC)

Not all services are offered at each site. Available sites for specific testing will be shared at the time of scheduling appointment.

SHC is the site for all vestibular assessments.

RRDTC is home to the Adult Cochlear Implant Service for the southern half of the province.

Pediatric hearing assessments are offered at RRDTC and ACHC.

Hearing screening is offered at RRDTC.

Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) assessments are at RRDTC only.

Eligibility

Exclusion Criteria

  • diagnostic hearing assessments for ages 6 months -18 years and adults (19+ years)
  • reason for referral is required
  • adults with medically related hearing concerns are prioritized
  • auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) testing for infants 1-6 months
  • hearing screening for infants and older children 4 -18 years
  • oncology (baseline / monitoring) hearing assessment (adults only)
  • vestibular (VNG/VEMP/vHIT) assessments (ENT / Neurology referral required)
  • must include the following information: date of onset of symptoms, description of symptoms, triggers of symptoms, information about other treatments
  • cochlear Implant (CI) candidacy assessments and intervention / follow-up (Adults only)
  • referrals from Speech-Language Pathologists for children over 3 years of age must be accompanied by failed hearing screening results

Wait Times

Wait times vary depending on service requested. The wait time for routine adult hearing assessments is approximately 9-12 months.
