Acute Geriatric Unit

Provides inpatient acute care services for older adults with multiple or complex medical problems and helps them to become independent again.

Offers assessments and treatments (including rehabilitation) to help older adults with medical problems become independent again. Families are encouraged to be part of the care planning process.

Eligibility

Older adults in acute care meeting program criteria (as assessed by a geriatric specialist team) including:

  • acute medical issues and geriatric syndromes
  • require rehabilitation to meet goal of returning home
Service Access

Consults for admission available to acute care inpatients (Calgary Zone) and can be made by most responsible health professional to a specialist geriatric team.
