Community Audiology within the Calgary Zone provides a full range of diagnostic audiological and specialized services for infants, children, adults and seniors.Centralized referral intake and scheduling is utilized for Community Audiology which includes multiple sites:
- Richmond Road Diagnostic and Treatment Centre (RRDTC)
- Arthur Child Cancer Care (ACCC)
- Foothills Medical Centre (FMC)
- South Health Campus (SHC)
- Airdrie Community Health Centre (ACHC)
Not all services are offered at each site. Available sites for specific testing will be shared at the time of scheduling appointment.
SHC is the site for all vestibular assessments.
RRDTC is home to the Adult Cochlear Implant Service for the southern half of the province.
Community Audiology provides the following services:
- Diagnostic hearing assessments for ages 6 months to 18 years old
- Diagnostic hearing assessments for adults (19+ years of age). Adults with medically related hearing concerns are prioritized
-Medically related hearing concerns can include persistent ear infections, ear pain, aural fullness, ear trauma, pulsatile tinnitus, unilateral tinnitus, ototoxic monitoring, sudden sensorineural hearing loss, meningitis, audiograms for preoperative prior to seeing an Otolaryngologist
- Adults (19+ years of age) who do not have any medically related hearing concerns will be triaged as routine. The current waitlist for routine assessments is 12 months. These patients will receive more timely care if redirected to private practice audiology services
- Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) testing for infants 1 - 6 months of age
- Hearing screening for infants (less than 6 months of age) and older children 4 -18 years of age
- Ototoxicity (baseline / monitoring) hearing assessments
- Vestibular assessments (ENT / Neurology referral required). Referrals must include the following information: date of onset of symptoms, descriptions of symptoms, triggers of symptoms, information about other treatments such as vestibular physiotherapy
- Cochlear implant (CI) candidacy assessments and intervention/follow-up for adults 18 and older. Referrals must include an up-to-date audiogram (within 6 months)
- Referrals from Speech-Language Pathologists for children over 3 years of age must be accompanied by failed hearing screening results
