Emergency care specialists

Advanced care paramedics (ACPs) are often the first responders at emergency scenes and provide urgent medical care.

Working within a defined scope of practice, they assess the scene and patient, check and monitor vital signs, administer lifesaving procedures, and stabilize an injured or ill person for ambulance transport to health care facilities for further treatment as needed.

Advanced care paramedic diploma


  • Assess patient condition to determine the extent of injury or illness and immediate care needs
  • Administer pre-hospital medical care, which may include stabilizing an injured or ill person who needs for ambulance transportation
  • Check and monitor vital signs, measure blood glucose levels and use other diagnostic procedures
  • Provide advanced life support procedures such as intubation and suturing

Make a Difference

  • Quickly transport patients from emergency scenes to the nearest hospital to receive medical care
  • Transport patients between facilities, if patients require a different level of care or more specialized care
  • Provide leadership and work guidance to other emergency medical services personnel and health care workers
  • Keep calm in what can be stressful situations and help save lives

Work Collaboratively

  • Provide direct patient care
  • Work as part of an interprofessional health care team, collaborating with emergency medical personnel, emergency communications officers, physicians, nurses and other health professionals
