Continuing Care Quality Indicators

Publications & Transparency

AHS has programs and services to help Albertans of all ages lead active and fulfilling lives, close to home. Continuing care services and supports include home care, supportive living, long-term care, hospice and end of life care.

In June 2015, the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) included nine new Quality Indicators (QIs) relevant to the Continuing Care Sector of Alberta Health Services.

Specifically, the nine QIs focus on three themes: Safety, Health Status of Residents and Appropriateness and Effectiveness of Care.

Quality indicators (QIs) flag areas where more attention may be needed to sustain and improve the quality of resident care. QIs are drawn from clinical assessments (known as RAI MDS 2.0 interRAI) completed every three months on individuals living in all long term care facilities across Alberta. The information is shared with the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI), an independent, not-for-profit organization that collates essential information on Canada’s health system and the health of Canadians. This report is updated annually.
