Restaurant Inspections

Environmental Public Health

Public Health Inspectors operate under the Alberta Public Health Act to ensure compliance with the province's Food Regulation. Under the Food Regulation, restaurant inspections occur prior to the opening of a new facility, every four to six months thereafter or more often if non-compliance with the regulation has been identified. Consumer complaints are also investigated, and an inspection may be conducted under special circumstances, such as a food recall.

To view Restaurant Closures, plus other business and housing closures, please see EPH Enforcement Orders.

Environmental Public Health has launched a new provincial software system.

  • All food facilities, like restaurants, grocery stores and convenience stores, will be displayed.
  • All inspections will have the same look.
  • All food facilities will start with no inspections listed. Inspections will be added as your local public health inspectors conduct inspections.

Please contact Environmental Public Health if you have questions.
