The De Hogeweyk Dementia Care Revolution
This year’s event featured Eloy van Hal, Consultant and Facility Manager of Dementia Village - De Hogeweyk, The Netherlands. Mr. van Hal provided an overview of their “cutting-edge elderly-care facility” – where residents can maintain their sense of independence while receiving the specialized care they require. Mr. van Hal discussed the design and approach to care for those with dementia as a cost-effective and humane response to an aging population. The event was emceed by Global TV Health Reporter, Su-Ling-Goh and featured the Honourable Sarah Hoffman, Minister of Health and Minister of Seniors, Government of Alberta, GRH Foundation President and CEO, Wendy Dugas, Dr. David Turpin, President and Vice-Chancellor, University of Alberta and Dr. Duncan Robertson, Senior Medical Director, Strategic Clinical Network: Seniors’ Health, AHS. Over 600 guests enjoyed networking, a research poster symposium and interactive displays. A Master Class held with Mr. van Hal after the research breakfast and poster symposium also provided an opportunity for interested guests to learn more about facility operations in The Netherlands.
