Specialized sexual assault teams may provide emotional support and education about options for care and reporting for people who have been sexually assaulted.
These specialized teams can provide advice and support to any health care professionals who are providing care to clients seeking support and medical treatment, following a sexual assault.
They can also advise on the best way to collect, and/or preserve evidence if the client is considering reporting to police. This may involve transport of the patient to a clinic that specializes in this type of care and related follow up.
AHS provides confidential and compassionate care at all of its hospitals and urgent care centres to anyone seeking medical care following a sexual assault. Every hospital and urgent care centre will provide medical care and can consult with a specialized sexual assault team 24/7.
Medical care includes treating or preventing sexually transmitted infections, pregnancy and other health concerns, follow-up testing and referrals to other health care services.
