Seniors Care

Seniors Care is a large focus of the care provided by Family Physicians whether in the community, in supported living or in acute care.   There are over 230 family physicians currently practicing within seniors care.

The DFM Seniors Care Section is responsible for the privileging and periodic review of the physicians who provide care for Seniors in LTC or in supported living environments or who provide consultative work in a variety of Geriatrics clinics.

Other areas of work include the collaboration with other primary care providers including Alberta Health Services such as Home Care, and partnering organizations including the Primary Care Networks, focusing on the activities that improve the quality of medical care provided to Seniors.

Goals of the Department of Family Medicine include the opportunities to support improved Seniors Care, to provide relevant Continuing Medical Education and to assist in the recruitment and retention of physicians working in LTC and Assisted Living.  Another important connection is with the Academic Department of Family Medicine, to support the educational opportunities related to Seniors care.
