Renovations resume at Stettler Hospital and Care Centre

STETTLER – Alberta Health Services (AHS) is pleased to announce the resumption of renovations at the Stettler Hospital and Care Centre’s Emergency Department (ED).

A major reconfiguration of the ER, the third phase of the $9.3 million renovation project, will begin July 24. Phases one and two, including construction of a new pharmacy, gift shop relocation and two new labour and delivery suites, have already been completed.

As the project involves having to move some departments and services, AHS has robust plans in place to ensure inpatient beds will not be impacted, so our healthcare teams can continue to focus on dealing with the impact of COVID-19.

Our project teams, contractors, and vendors all have strict fit for work screening and Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) protocols in place. One hoarding goes up, these teams will have very little physical contact with other parts of the hospital.

A temporary Emergency (ED) will be established in another part of the hospital to allow for renovations to take place in the current ED. Patients will continue to be seen without interruption. The temporary ED is expected to be in place for the duration of the renovations.

There will no longer be access to the ED through the ambulance bay; patients and visitors should go to the hospital’s main entrance. Once there, they will be directed to the temporary ED by signage and staff. Wheelchairs and stretchers will be stationed at the entrance should people need them.

Once complete, the new ED will be completely renovated to improve visibility, accessibility, privacy, security, workflow and patient care.

Funding for the project comes from the Government of Alberta’s Infrastructure and Maintenance Program.

The Stettler Health Services Foundation, which works with the community to make decisions about how best to allocate health-related donations, is committed to raising a total of $650,000 to support the renovations.
