AHS expands Continuing Care Facility Directory

Albertans now have more information to make informed accommodation decisions

EDMONTON – Albertans now have access to more robust information about a larger range of continuing care homes at their fingertips.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) has worked with Alberta Health and service providers to expand the online Continuing Care Facility Directory, which now includes supportive living and seniors lodges. This is in addition to publicly funded continuing care homes including designated supportive living and long-term care. Albertans can filter results by a variety of different data elements, including room type, common amenities and level of care.

“Budget 2022 will support a major expansion in continuing care, to give our seniors better access to the spaces they need. We also want to make the system easier to navigate. Combining information about continuing care facilities into one web application will complement the increased spaces by making it easier to find the right facility, for yourself or a loved one,” says Jason Copping, Minister of Health.

The changes are based on recommendations from the government’s facility-based continuing care review, released last May.

“Having a single, reliable source of information will help Albertans make the right choice to suit their accommodation and healthcare needs,” says AHS President and CEO Dr. Verna Yiu.

Participation in the updated directory is voluntary for supportive living and seniors’ lodges. Any site owner/operator who wishes to be listed can email facility.directory@ahs.ca.

The directory launched in June 2019, in response to the Long Term Care Information Act, and the requirement to post information about designated supportive living and long-term care publicly.

Alberta Health Services is the provincial health authority responsible for planning and delivering health supports and services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta.
