Wabasca Health Care Centre resumes 24/7 Emergency Department services August 22

August 22, 2022

WABASCA – The Wabasca Health Care Centre (WHCC) will resume 24/7 Emergency Department operations on Monday, August 22.

Staffing levels have now stabilized, allowing WHCC to return to 24-hour Emergency Department services.

Emergency Department hours at WHCC were reduced to 12 hours a day starting on June 20, 2022 due to gaps in nursing coverage, with the ED operating from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. daily during this period. This temporary measure was taken as a last resort to support patient and staff safety.

At this time, inpatient beds remain temporarily closed.

AHS would like to thank the community for its patience and understanding during this time when hours were modified. AHS is thankful for the support of EMS, surrounding healthcare centres and medical staff that helped ensure those who needed care continued to have access to it, even if it required receiving that care in a neighbouring community.
