TWO HILLS – Clients in need of specialized rehabilitation can receive services once again at Two Hills Health Centre’s Stroke and Geriatric Empowerment (SAGE) unit, which reopens early in the New Year.
AHS had temporarily paused admissions at the end of August due to an occupational therapist vacancy, compounded by other staffing challenges. The pause of the program allowed Alberta Health Services (AHS) to safely maintain operations of the remaining beds at the Two Hills Health Centre.
Six beds of the 12-bed SAGE unit reopen January 3, 2023 following the successful recruitment of an occupational therapist. AHS will then evaluate and work toward reopening the remaining six beds.
SAGE is a specialized intensive rehabilitation program, providing assessment, treatment and rehabilitation to adults who have had a stroke or require further rehabilitation therapy following surgical interventions. Clients who experience a deficit or a sudden onset of cognitive impairment or decline in their daily functioning are also treated.
