Bassano Health Centre Emergency Department to reopen overnight hours

December 29, 2022

BASSANO – Effective Jan. 2, 2023, the Bassano Health Centre emergency department (ED) will reopen to full 24-hour, seven days a week coverage.

On June 1, 2022, Alberta Health Services (AHS) temporarily limited the ED hours due to a lack of physician availability.

A new physician recently began working in the community, and another is planning to begin in March.

AHS extends its gratitude to the community for its patience and understanding.

Patients are asked to call 911 if they have a medical emergency.

Residents are reminded to call Health Link at 811, which is available 24/7, for non-emergency health-related questions. Individuals requiring non-emergency medical care are also encouraged to call their family physician.

AHS continues to recruit for family physicians across southern Alberta to meet community needs. AHS has physician resource planners who are dedicated to identifying and pursuing international and domestic physician recruitment opportunities. They work closely with various community partners and organizations, such as local Health Advisory Councils, and the Rural Health Professions Action Plan, and independent physician recruitment and retention committees.

Alberta Health Services is the provincial health authority responsible for planning and delivering health supports and services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta. Its mission is to provide a patient-focused, quality health system that is accessible and sustainable for all Albertans.
