Rotary Flames House to resume respite service starting January 16, 2023

January 13, 2023

CALGARY – Alberta Health Services (AHS) is pleased to resume all regular services at Rotary Flames House (RFH) starting the week of January 16th. AHS temporarily paused respite care admissions at the Rotary Flames House in early December, and redeployed staff to assist in supporting patients at Alberta Children’s Hospital. Palliative care continued to be provided during this time.

With the need for additional inpatient beds and services trending downward, staff from Rotary Flames House who have been supporting much needed care and services within the hospital will be returning to their roles at RFH.

AHS will also be closing the six temporary medical acute short stay beds which have been supported by Rotary Flames House staff and community physicians the week of January 16th.

We understand this temporary pause in respite services was concerning and difficult for our clients and families. These are extraordinary times, and we thank Albertans in advance for their support and understanding.

We are grateful for the support of all redeployed staff, community and Emergency Department physicians, and our core healthcare team for continuing to go above and beyond to support the needs of patients at Alberta Children’s Hospital.

Alberta Health Services is the provincial health authority responsible for planning and delivering health supports and services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta.
