Edson Healthcare Centre evacuated and temporarily closed

June 10, 2023

EDSON — To ensure the safety of all patients and staff, the Edson Healthcare Centre is temporarily closed due to wildfire activity in the area.

As of approximately 1:15 a.m. June 10, Alberta Health Services (AHS) and our EMS partners safely evacuated the remaining patients and long-term care residents from the Edson Healthcare Centre in response to an evacuation order issued due to the current wildfire risk.

More than 60 patients and residents were evacuated and are being cared for in surrounding healthcare facilities.

The Edson Healthcare Centre will remain closed until it is safe to reopen.

Due to the current wildfire activity and mandatory evacuation order, EMS is not available in the community of Edson at this time. EMS will resume services when deemed safe to do so.

If you have an emergency, please call 911. EMS resources remain available in surrounding communities to provide support to those who need it.

All appointments with laboratory services, diagnostic imaging, mental health and public health in Edson are postponed at this time. Clients will be contacted directly by AHS to be rescheduled as soon as possible.

Patients who require hemodialysis are being accommodated at other facilities, and home care clients impacted by the evacuation have been contacted to arrange for alternative home visits and support from nursing teams.

AHS continues to work closely with our municipal and provincial partners, and we continue to monitor wildfire activity.
