Update to temporary Emergency Department closures at Myron Thompson Health Centre

December 28, 2023

SUNDRE – Physician coverage has been found for the Emergency Department (ED) at the Myron Thompson Health Centre from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. on both Dec. 28 and 29. The emergency department will remain open and available to area residents in need of urgent care during these times.

Due to a gap in physician coverage, ED will still temporarily be closed through the evening hours over the following dates:

These closures are a last resort after all options to find alternative coverage have been exhausted at this time.

Nursing staff will remain in the ED during the closures to assess any patients who present to the site seeking care. They will provide first aid where needed and refer patients to alternate care facilities in surrounding communities, including the Olds Hospital and Care Centre, Didsbury District Health Services and Rocky Mountain House Health Centre as needed.

EMS will be available to transport patients to other facilities depending on their condition.

All other services at the site will continue to operate as normal. Inpatient units are not affected by the temporary ED closure.

We are thankful for the support of surrounding healthcare centres and medical staff and would like to thank the community for their patience and understanding during this time.
