EDMONTON – Today, approximately 10,000 staff and physicians transferred to Recovery Alberta from Alberta Health Services, providing recovery-oriented addiction, mental health and correctional health services province-wide.
"Thanks to the ongoing commitment of staff and physicians, we are well-positioned for a positive transition," said Kerry Bales, CEO of Recovery Alberta. "Their continued dedication will support ongoing continuity of services for all patients and clients."
Recovery Alberta’s services are publicly-funded and include care offered in acute care, outpatient, virtual, detoxification, and standalone psychiatric settings, along with community outreach and community bed-based mental health and addiction treatment. The organization is also responsible for all correctional health services throughout the province.
Although the Recovery Alberta staff transfer is complete, this team will continue to work closely with Alberta Health Services (AHS) staff in shared spaces and maintain long-standing partnerships with existing care partners and community organizations to best serve Albertans.

We are committed to ensuring that all Albertans, no matter where they live, have the specialized and integrated services and supports they need,” said Bales.
Recovery Alberta is the first of four provincial health agencies proposed by Alberta’s government to begin operations. The organization brings a dedicated focus to comprehensive and accessible recovery-oriented care in our province. The delivery of high-quality mental health, addiction, and correctional health services continues, and patients and clients will access their services and supports the way they always have.
