Event showcases continuing care services and supports

EDMONTON – Alberta Health Services and Covenant Health are hosting public expositions in Calgary and Edmonton to educate Albertans on the continuing care system.

Continuing Care & Community Living – EXPO 2016 aims to improve understanding of continuing care services and supports and to help make the system easier to navigate for those requiring care, their families and caregivers.

These free, public events will bring together consumers, service providers, health care professionals, specialist manufacturers and retailers.

Exhibits and programs are geared toward anyone who is interested in continuing care and independent living, including parents/families with children with special needs; students; people whose aging parents need services and supports to live in the community; older adults who are planning for their future and hope to live independently; and providers of continuing care, community living options and related options. Parking is free for both events.

Topics and themes include assistive technology; groups that may have particular needs (e.g., Canadian Forces personnel, children, and people with spinal cord injuries, dementia and autism); caregiver support; living with care at home; mobility and travelling; technology innovations; and transition planning.

Two separate events are scheduled:

In addition to the two expositions, Edmonton is also hosting A Place to Call Home: A Continuing Care Symposium for Younger Adults with Disabilities, a one-day symposium on Thursday, May 5, that will explore a process to achieve and sustain quality, innovation, accessible and supportive housing and care options for young adults with disabilities.
