Temporary emergency department closure extended at Consort Hospital

January 19, 2022

CONSORT – The Consort Hospital and Care Centre emergency department (ED) will remain closed temporarily until January 24, 2022.

The closure, which was initiated on January 13, 2022, is a temporary measure due to staffing challenges related to a COVID-19 outbreak in the site’s long-term care (LTC) unit.

As the Consort Hospital and Care Centre provides both LTC and acute care services, staff are shared between units to provide care. To help prevent further spread of illness, and to avoid having to relocate LTC residents, staffing resources continue to be dedicated to the LTC unit at this time.

During the temporary closure, patients requiring emergency care can access it at alternative facilities, including the Coronation Hospital and Care Centre.

Residents are reminded to call Health Link at 811, which is available 24/7 for non-emergency health-related questions. Individuals requiring non-emergency medical care are also encouraged to call their family physician.

The Consort ED will return to regular operating hours – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Thursday and 9 a.m. to noon on Friday – January 24, 2022.

We are thankful for the support of surrounding healthcare centres and medical staff, and would like to thank the community for their patience and understanding during this time.
