The intent of these guidelines is to enhance patient care and shorten the admission process from the UAH Emergency Department to UAH Inpatient Units. These general principles will cover the vast majority of cases and have been established based on UAH resource allocation. Communication among medical practitioners must demonstrate the highest level of collaboration and professionalism. All disagreements should be conducted and resolved strictly by attending-to-attending* physician discussions and with the intent of putting patients first. Services should be prepared to accept in-hospital (unit-to-unit) transfers if it becomes apparent that the patient is more appropriate for another service.
