Supporting patients to achieve their glycemic targets of 5-10mmol/L while in hospital.
The Glycemic Management Policy suites includes an overarching glycemic management policy with procedures and algorithms for the treatment of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia for adult and pediatric patients. The adult policy suite became effective September 1, 2017. Minor revisions, were made effective July 12, 2021. The pediatric policy suite is effective September 20, 2021.
These policy suites outline expectations and recommended strategies for glycemic management ofpatients presenting to, or admitted to, any Alberta Health Services (AHS) Acute Care setting, including Intensive Care Units, Emergency Departments, Urgent Care Centres, Day Wards, and Addiction and Mental Health inpatient settings.
These policy suites may be used in non-Acute Care settings. Site or unit managers are responsible for determining whether this policy in whole or in part is appropriate for their patient care setting and communicating relevant messaging out to AHS representatives.
