Approximately 49,334 women gave birth in Alberta in 2021
Pregnant women and newborn babies may receive care in hospital and in the community from:
labour and delivery nurses
midwives and doulas
community health clinics
home care nurses
The Maternal Fetal Newborn Standing Committee provides a provincial forum for patients, families, clinicians and other stakeholders to support maternal health (prenatal to postpartum), fetal health, and optimize care and outcomes for newborn babies.
Our work takes place on historical and contemporary Indigenous lands, including the territories of Treaty 6, Treaty 7 & Treaty 8 and the homeland of the Métis Nation of Alberta and 8 Métis Settlements. We also acknowledge the many Indigenous communities that have been forged in urban centres across Alberta.
