October 15th is Global Hand Washing Day – a global advocacy day dedicated to increasing awareness and understanding about the importance of handwashing with soap as an effective and affordable way to prevent diseases and save lives. Global Hand Washing Day is an opportunity to design, test, and replicate creative ways to encourage people to wash their hands with soap at critical times.
May 6, 2019 is STOP! Clean Your Hands Day, a national campaign to encourage everyone to perform hand hygiene to prevent the spread of infections and save lives.
This year, the AHS Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Hand Hygiene Program is hosting a provincial event called “Clean Hands Make the World Go ‘Round!”
AHS staff, physicians, and volunteers, as well as patients, families and visitors are encouraged to participate by placing a sticker on a world map at their site indicating a unique location where they have cleaned their hands. Post cards will also be available if you would like to share a small anecdote about the location. For example, if you put a sticker on Paris, France, you could write on a postcard, "I cleaned my hands while waiting in line to use the elevator to get the top of the Eiffel Tower!”
If you would like more information, including resources available for hosting the event at your site, please see below:
