Supporting patients to achieve their glycemic targets of 5-10mmol/L while in hospital.
The Glycemic Management Policy suite includes an overarching glycemic management policy with procedures and algorithms for the treatment of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia. These provincial governance documents became effective September 1, 2017. Minor revisions, based on provincial feedback, were made effective February 4, 2019.
The goal is to improve glycemic management in acute care settings through a number of coordinated strategies, and to support staff in early recognition and treatment of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia, to prevent negative outcomes for adult patients.
For the purposes of this policy suite only, Acute Care setting includes all AHS urban and rural hospitals (including the Emergency Department), psychiatric facilities, and Urgent Care facilities.
These documents may be used in non-acute care settings. Site/unit managers are responsible for determining whether this document in whole or in part is appropriate to their patient care setting and communicating that out to staff.
