Supporting patients to achieve their glycemic targets of 5-10mmol/L while in hospital.
The Glycemic Management Policy suites include an overarching glycemic management policy with procedures and algorithms for the treatment of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia for adult and pediatric patients.
These policy suites outline expectations and recommended strategies for glycemic management of patients presenting to, or admitted to, any Alberta Health Services (AHS) Acute Care setting, including Intensive Care Units, Emergency Departments, Urgent Care Centres, Day Wards, and Addiction and Mental Health inpatient settings.
These policy suites may be used in non-Acute Care settings. Site or unit managers are responsible for determining whether this policy in whole or in part is appropriate for their patient care setting and communicating relevant messaging out to AHS representatives.
Educational posters summarizing the policy are available by emailing don.scn@ahs.ca.
