Alberta Health Services is the first Canadian healthcare organization to use artificial intelligence technology, through Amazon’s voice activated smart-home system – Alexa.
If you have an Amazon Echo device, you can enable the AHS skill for your Alexa. This skill provides Albertans with estimated emergency department wait times from specific sites, as well as the latest AHS news.
"Alexa, ask AHS for wait times."
Alexa will respond with AHS’s estimated, real-time wait times at emergency departments and urgent care centres in and around:
"Alexa, ask AHS for Lethbridge wait times."
You can ask for the wait times in any of the cities for which wait times are currently posted. For example, Alexa will respond with AHS’s estimated, real-time wait times at the Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge.
"Alexa, ask AHS for latest news."
Alexa will respond with up-to-date info and news from AHS.
This service is another way AHS is using innovation and technology to better support Albertans in managing and maintaining their health.
We will continue to add to the skills AHS has available through Alexa and we are working to create the same service for Google’s home products, as well as Apple’s HomePod products when available.
Patients and the public also have access to up-to-the-minute wait times for specific emergency departments 24 hours a day, seven days a week via the Alberta Health Services website and the AHS mobile app.
As always, any patient with a potentially life-threatening condition should immediately phone 911 or go directly to the NEAREST Emergency Department regardless of estimated wait times.
