Nurses follow nursing processes and use critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making in their role as well as teaching, counseling, and advocating on behalf of patients and their families

Duties

  • Provide nursing services within a defined scope of practice
  • Follow the nursing process
  • Observe, assess, monitor and document patient symptoms, reactions and progress
  • Administer medications and injections
  • Assist physicians during procedures
  • Work collaboratively with other nurses and healthcare practitioners
  • Provide education and information to patients, families, and caregivers

  • Care for people who are sick or injured, and help them recover
  • Teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients
  • Promote healthy living and good health practices to improve or maintain health
  • Empower people to better take care of themselves
  • Provide expert knowledge, guidance and mentorship to nursing students and other professionals

Work Collaboratively

  • Use a patient and family centred care model
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, health care aides, and other healthcare practitioners
  • Work in a variety of facilities including hospitals, clinics, schools, prisons, mental health clinics, or community health
