Protective Services Officer

Protective Services Officers provide security and protective services for all patients, visitors, staff and AHS property. They provide prevention and intervention, asset loss prevention, as well as risk and hazard assessments.

They work with vulnerable individuals alongside the healthcare team and they adhere to provincial and municipal statutes when acting as a first responder to critical events.

  • $40.15 - $45.99 per hour (As of April 1st, 2026)

Protective Services Officer

Safety Ambassador

Safety Ambassadors identify potential risks, works to de-escalate difficult behaviours verbally and contacts Protective Services or Police of Jurisdictions for a response if needed.

They have strong communication and interpersonal skills, and can make quick decisions based on fluid and dynamic situations.

  • $25.72 - $31.25 per hour (As of April 1st, 2026)

Safety Ambassador

Rural Mobile Unit Officers

Rural Mobile Unit Protective Services Officers perform mobile patrol duties throughout health corridors in Alberta while representing the Protective Services department as a whole.

They provide safety and security to rural hospitals and clinics, and respond to urgent situations within their specified region. As a first responder, they can work both individually and on a team.

Rural Mobile Unit Officer

Telecom Operator

Telecom Operators monitor radio activity and receive calls for security requests. They work within various information database systems and coordinate the assignment of officers working across a range of health and commercial sites.

They coordinate, assign, and provide timely documentation of all Protective Services Officer activities.

Services

Protective Services provides the following services across the province:

  • Site Protective Service Operations - security and protective services at the site level
  • Mobile Protective Services Operations - mobile patrol throughout rural and urban Alberta
  • Corporate Investigations - corporate level investigations and internal reviews
  • Enterprise Security Systems - management of security systems and technologies
  • Non-violent Crisis Intervention - training offered to AHS staff for enhanced intervention skills
  • Fire & Life Safety - provincial and zone level AHS fire authority
  • Provincial Security Operations Centre (PSOC) - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week security call centre
