Midwifery services are publicly funded and Albertans can access ‘courses of care’ from a midwife. Albertans can find a midwife through the Alberta Association of Midwives.
Families will see an increase in the number of funded courses of care available in the coming years. There will be a total of 3174 courses of care in 2016-2017 with an additional 400 courses of care in 2017/18 and 2018/19. AHS is also working towards a midwifery workforce plan to help grow midwifery care in high-need areas and rural communities.
Midwifery services are monitored for safety and quality. This includes incident reporting, patient satisfaction and concerns.
