Massive Hemorrhage Protocols (MHPs) and provide mechanisms for rapid provision of blood components and products for the resuscitation of exsanguinating patients. Communication and consultation with a transfusion medicine physician are key components of an MHP.
Not all MHPs utilize a series of boxes. MHPs are tailored to the blood products and clinical protocols available at the site, and the clinical situation of the patient.
Note: The previous terminology of Massive Transfusion Protocol (MTP) is being provincially standardized to MHP.
Applicability: Facilities that do not have massive hemorrhage protocol.
