Open House for staff and public on Norwood Re-development Project

June 6, 2018

EDMONTON – Alberta Health Services (AHS), Alberta Infrastructure (AI) and CapitalCare will host an open house on June 12, providing the public with an opportunity to view and discuss proposed design drawings regarding the CapitalCare Norwood re-development project.

The new drawings include designs for a new building; increased on-site parking; additional landscaping; street and laneway closures; and changes to traffic patterns in the Kingsway area.

The open house will be held on Tuesday, June 12 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the CapitalCare Norwood auditorium, 10410 - 111 Avenue NW. Members of the public, as well as AHS, CapitalCare and Covenant Health staff, are welcome to attend.

The much-needed CapitalCare Norwood re-development project will increase the number of post-acute and continuing care beds from 205 to 350. The 40,000 square foot expansion will accommodate a broad range of support programs and services in new and renovated spaces.

Community services to be provided in the new CapitalCare Norwood expansion could include a specialty dental clinic, community paramedic programs, the CHOICE program for elderly care, hemodialysis, pulmonary rehabilitation, respiratory outreach and respiratory benefits program. The new site will also support continuing care education and research.

This development will relieve pressure on Edmonton’s hospitals and continuing care systems by reducing the demand on emergency departments, inpatient acute care services and residential continuing care placement.

Alberta Health Services is the provincial health authority responsible for planning and delivering health supports and services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta. Its mission is to provide a patient-focused, quality health system that is accessible and sustainable for all Albertans.
