Installation begins today on replacement CT scanner

August 17, 2018

FORT McMURRAY – Installation begins today on a new computed tomography (CT) scanner at the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre.

The new scanner is expected to be operational in approximately one week. It replaces a CT scanner, installed in April, which was frequently breaking down. The problem didn’t affect the machine’s accuracy when operational and patient safety was never compromised.

During the installation, residents requiring an urgent CT scan will have access to a temporary CT scanner installed in a trailer near the emergency department. Anyone who requires a non-urgent appointment will be booked outside of the one-week window.
