New family physician now practising in Valleyview

October 4, 2018

VALLEYVIEW – Local residents have increased access to primary care with the arrival of a new family physician.

Dr. Daniel Dada started practising in August at the Valleyview Health Centre.

“I’m so pleased Dr. Dada is bringing his skills and expertise to serve patients and their families from Valleyview and surrounding communities,” says Sarah Hoffman, Minister of Health. “Our government is proud to partner with Alberta Health Services and the medical community to help bring new healthcare providers to rural communities.”

“It’s a pleasure to welcome Dr. Dada to the community,” adds Dr. Brian Muir, Deputy Zone Medical Director for Alberta Health Services (AHS). “He’s a great addition to our local care team and his skills and experience are a valuable asset to local residents.”

Dr. Dada comes to Valleyview from Calgary, where he has been practising since 2013. He previously spent time in Three Hills and Milk River as a family practitioner with experience in emergency departments and long-term care.

Before coming to Canada, Dr. Dada’s international medical career included a number of years in Australia, South Africa and Nigeria, where he practised family medicine as well as providing inpatient, outpatient and emergency care.

Dr. Dada becomes the fifth family physician practising in town.

“It’s always a pleasure to have new physicians wanting to come to our community,” says Mayor Vern Lymburner. “Dr. Dada will be a great asset to our community. On behalf of the residents of the Town of Valleyview, the MD of Greenview and Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation, I’d like to welcome him to Valleyview.”

Dr. Dada completed his medical training in Nigeria and South Africa. He has a diploma in Forensic Medicine from the College of Medicine, South Africa, multiple fellowships and a diploma in practical dermatology.

“I am looking forward to being part of a team focused and committed to working in partnership with patients,” he says.

A fan of lawn tennis and soccer, Dr. Dada is looking forward to meeting new people in Valleyview and learning more about the community. He was recruited through the ongoing efforts of AHS and its community partners.

AHS continues to recruit for family physicians across northern Alberta to meet community needs. AHS has physician resource planners who are dedicated to identifying and pursuing international and domestic physician recruitment opportunities.

They work closely with various community partners and organizations, such as local Health Advisory Councils, the Rural Health Professions Action Plan, and independent physician recruitment and retention committees.

Alberta Health Services is the provincial health authority responsible for planning and delivering health supports and services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta. Its mission is to provide a patient-focused, quality health system that is accessible and sustainable for all Albertans.
