Local public health services now available weekly

January 10, 2019

REDWATER – Local residents now have improved access to a wide range of public health services as Alberta Health Services (AHS) has expanded clinic times to meet increasing demand.

The public health clinic at the Redwater Health Centre now runs every Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Previously, the public health clinic ran every second Thursday.

About 30 appointments have been booked at the public health clinic this month, up from an average of 12 booked per month before the hours were expanded.

“I grew up in rural Alberta and understand the challenges involved in accessing healthcare facilities. By adding new hours at the Redwater public health clinic, we’re helping more families get the services they need more quickly; including immunizations, post-partum supports and early childhood programs,” says Sarah Hoffman, Minister of Health. “This is a clear example of our work to make sure healthcare services are delivered in the right place, at the right time, by the right healthcare provider.”

“In response to the needs of our patients and community members, we are excited to be able to offer our public health clinics weekly,” says Jennifer Beaulieu, AHS Public Health Manager.

“AHS is committed to enhancing care in the community and this expansion of public health services reflects this commitment.”

Local public health services include immunization for all ages, influenza and school immunizations, communicable disease control, post-partum nursing care and support through the Healthy Beginnings program, as well as early childhood intervention visits.

AHS is continually evaluating the needs of Alberta communities to see what improvements or additions can be made.

To make an appointment, community members can contact the clinic at 780-942-6615.

Alberta Health Services is the provincial health authority responsible for planning and delivering health supports and services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta. Its mission is to provide a patient-focused, quality health system that is accessible and sustainable for all Albertans.
