Wood Buffalo Addiction and Mental Health offering services in one convenient new location

August 23, 2019

FORT McMURRAY – Residents of Fort McMurray and surrounding areas can now access walk-in counselling (Walk-In Clinic) and referral services, such as assertive outreach and community Addiction and Mental Health, in one convenient new location.

These services are now all offered at Wood Buffalo Addiction and Mental Health Services (339 Powder Drive), Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Walk-In Clinic is the first point of contact for clients seeking short-term counselling services to help with a variety of mental health concerns, including stress, bereavement, parenting, relationships, depression and anxiety. No appointment or referral is needed. The Walk-In Clinic was formerly located at 10217 Queen Street (AHS Environmental Public Health services continue to be based at the Queen Street location).

Community Addiction and Mental Health services offered at the new Powder Drive site include assessments, consultations, treatment, and/or referrals. These services were formerly located at the Queen Street site, as well as at the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre.

A number of familiar services and programs will be offered at the new location, such as the Gambling Recovery Intensive Program (GRIP), Relapse Prevention Group, Friends and Family Support Group, Youth Information Series, Fort McMurray Diversion Program, and Assertive Outreach Services (AOS). Street Connect will also be based at the new site, where its staff will continue to provide street-based community outpatient services to clients wherever they may be in Fort McMurray.

Moving addiction and mental health services under one roof was done to provide clients with increased convenience and greater ease of access. Services are not changing and clients of all ages will continue to receive the care they need, including counselling, joint-case conferencing and case planning.

Wood Buffalo Addiction and Mental Health Services can be contacted at 780-793-8360 for questions related to available services or to book an appointment.
