Power restored, Lac La Biche emergency department reopens

April 20, 2021

LAC LA BICHE - The emergency department at the William J. Cadzow Lac La Biche Healthcare Centre has reopened and power to the facility restored.

The emergency department at the site was temporarily closed earlier this morning due to a power outage and mechanical issue with the backup generator.

AHS has procedures and protocols in place to manage situations like these. The site was able to run on emergency power from portable generators.

All long-term care residents and acute care patients were able to safely remain at the healthcare centre and continued to receive care through the duration of the outage.

Outpatients who had appointments booked for today at the William J. Cadzow Lac La Biche Healthcare Centre will be contacted to reschedule.

There will be a review of the facility’s power distribution system to determine if any additional repairs are needed.

AHS thanks the community for its understanding and patience, as well as to staff and neighbouring healthcare centres for their support during this time.
