Fort Saskatchewan hospital temporarily suspends labour and delivery services

December 31, 2021

EDMONTON – Effective immediately, the Fort Saskatchewan Community Hospital’s Women’s Health Program will temporarily suspend labour and delivery services due to staffing challenges.

Pregnant patients who planned on delivering at Fort Saskatchewan Community Hospital will need to speak with their midwife or physician to adjust their birth plan to deliver at the Sturgeon Community Hospital in St. Albert.

The Fort Saskatchewan Community Hospital Emergency Department remains open for urgent and emergent care. As always, all patients requiring immediate medical care should phone 911.

Pregnant patients requiring non-emergency medical care continue to be encouraged to call their family physician or obstetrician. To speak to a nurse to receive advice and health information over the telephone, families can also contact Health Link 24/7 by dialing 811.

AHS would like to thank the community for its patience and understanding during this time.
