Temporarily reduced hours for Consort Hospital and Care Centre Emergency Department

May 6, 2022

CONSORT – The Consort Hospital and Care Centre emergency department (ED) will operate on temporarily reduced days from May 9 to June 6, 2022, due to gaps in physician coverage.

The ED will be closed on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays because of the coverage gaps during this timeframe. Services will be offered Wednesdays and Thursdays during normal hours. The ED will continue to remain closed evenings and weekends as per usual.

Despite best efforts, alternative locum coverage could not be secured. These temporary days of operation are a last resort.

Nursing staff will remain in the ED to assess patients presenting to the department, with phone consults available from the on-call physician in the Coronation ED as needed. Patients may be referred to emergency departments or other health facilities, including the Coronation Hospital and Care Centre, as needed.

EMS will be called if emergency care is required and is prepared to transport patients, as necessary.

Long Term Care and community support beds will not be impacted at the Consort Hospital during this time.

Patients requiring emergency medical care during this time are asked to call 911. EMS calls will be re-routed to surrounding facilities. Residents can call Health Link at 811, which is available 24/7, for non-emergency, health-related questions.

AHS is grateful for the support of surrounding healthcare centres and medical staff and would like to thank the community for its patience and understanding during this time.
