No weekend physician coverage overnight in Two Hills Emergency Department

May 20, 2022

Emergency department resumes normal 24/7 operation May 24

TWO HILLS – The Two Hills Emergency Department (ED) is temporarily without overnight physician coverage on-site this weekend, beginning at 8 p.m. today.

As a result, the ED will be closed from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. until May 24. Locum coverage for the ED is in place during the day.

AHS is working to ensure residents continue to have access to the care they need during this time. Patients who may arrive at the site will be seen by a Registered Nurse, who will provide first aid or call EMS as required. During this time, EMS will transport patients requiring emergency care to nearby facilities, including St. Therese Healthcare Centre in St. Paul and St. Joseph’s Hospital in Vegreville.

On-call physician coverage will be available to support currently admitted inpatients and long-term care residents if needed.

Long term care, acute care and rehabilitation beds are not impacted.

Residents are reminded to call Health Link at 811, which is available 24/7 for non-emergency, health-related questions.

AHS is grateful for the support of local and locum physicians who have helped minimize this temporary disruption as much as possible. Additionally, AHS appreciates the support surrounding healthcare centres and medical staff and would like to thank the community for its patience and understanding during this time.
