Modified Hours for Urgent Care at South Calgary Health Centre

August 2, 2022

CALGARY –The Urgent Care Centre (UCC) at the South Calgary Health Centre (SCHC) located at 31 Sunpark Plaza S.E. will be changing its hours of patient intake from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. as of today - Tuesday, August 2, 2022.

New patients will not be admitted to the UCC after 8 p.m. and those remaining in the department at that time will be treated according to their needs.

This change is to help ensure that safe care continues to be provided at the UCC within the current staffing model. At this time, we are unable to increase staffing at the UCC due to workforce challenges.

When the UCC is very busy, staff may redirect or transfer new patients that can safely do so to other nearby healthcare facilities up to two hours before closing to ensure all existing patients within the UCC can be provided the care and treatment they require.

We ask all individuals who intend to seek care from the UCC at the South Calgary Health Centre to present as far in advance to the 8 p.m. closing time as possible to allow the time needed for investigation, treatment, and discharge planning.

All patients that require non-urgent care and treatment after 8 p.m. are asked to look at other care options, including making an appointment with your family physician, or visiting a walk-in or family care clinic. Individuals should proceed to their closest Emergency Department or call 911 in an emergency. Registered nurses at Health Link can be reached 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by calling 811 to help determine what care options are best for you.

Other services provided at the South Calgary Health Centre, including Public Health, will remain unaffected.

AHS would like to thank Calgarians for their patience and understanding during this time.
