Bassano Health Centre emergency department (ED) to close for long-weekend

September 1, 2022

BASSANO — The Bassano Health Centre emergency department (ED) will be temporarily closed from 5 p.m. Friday, September 2 to 8 a.m. Tuesday, September 6 due to lack of physician coverage.

As of September 7, the ED will also be extending its current hours of weekday coverage and weekend coverage until October 31, 2022. During this period, the ED will remain open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and open for the entire weekend, including overnight.

The lack of physician availability also requires extending the temporary consolidation of Bassano Health Centre’s four acute care beds to the Brooks Health Centre.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) is working to ensure local residents continue to have access to the care they need during this time.

Patients are asked to call 911 if they have a medical emergency.

EMS calls will be re-routed to Brooks (51 km), to ensure local residents continue to have access to the emergency services they need. Patients seeking care can access emergency services at the Brooks Health Centre.

Residents are reminded to call Health Link at 811, which is available 24/7, for non-emergency health-related questions. Individuals requiring non-emergency medical care are also encouraged to call their family physician.

AHS is grateful for the support of surrounding healthcare centres and medical staff, and thanks the community for its patience and understanding during this time.

Alberta Health Services is the provincial health authority responsible for planning and delivering health supports and services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta.
