Edson Healthcare Centre emergency department re-opens

May 9, 2023

EDSON – The emergency department at the Edson Healthcare Centre (EHC) has opened today, May 9, at 8 a.m.

Patient safety and care remain our top priorities and we are working hard to ensure the community has urgent care available.

No additional services at EHC are re-opening at this time. Inpatient admissions are temporarily paused. EMS remains available to the community and will transport patients to nearby facilities as needed.

The EHC was temporarily evacuated and closed due to threat of local wildfires on May 5.

AHS has been reaching out to families and loved ones of the evacuated inpatients and residents with information. If you have not been contacted, please reach out to HealthLink at 8-1-1 (patients) or Continuing Care Access at 1-855-371-4122 (residents).

All appointments with laboratory services, diagnostic imaging, mental health and public health in Edson are postponed at this time. Clients will be contacted directly by AHS to be rescheduled as soon as possible.

Patients who require hemodialysis are being accommodated at other facilities, and home care clients impacted by the evacuation have been contacted to arrange for alternative home visits and support from nursing teams.

We are extremely grateful for our frontline teams, staff and physicians who have come together to support the response across AHS.
