Rocky Mountain House Health Centre ED to close temporarily June 23

June 22, 2023

ROCKY MOUNTAIN HOUSE — The Rocky Mountain House Health Centre Emergency Department (ED) will be temporarily without physician coverage from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, June 23.

As a result, the ED will close beginning at 5 a.m. to allow physicians and staff to treat and discharge all remaining patients in the department. New patients will not be admitted into the department after this time.

This closure is a temporary measure taken as a last resort. Alberta Health Services is working hard to ensure local residents continue to have access to the care they need during this time, and to keep all other services at the site operating as normal.

Inpatient units are not impacted by this closure.

Nursing staff will remain in the ED to refer patients to alternate care facilities in surrounding communities as needed, including the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre, Myron Thompson Health Centre in Sundre and Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre.

EMS will be available to transport patients to other facilities if necessary.

Patients who may present to the site in labour during the temporary closure will continue to be seen and supported onsite by the obstetrical team.

Residents are reminded to call Health Link at 811, which is available 24/7, for non-emergency, health-related questions.

AHS would like to thank the community for their patience and understanding during this time. AHS is thankful for the support of surrounding healthcare centres and medical staff as well to help ensure that those who need care continue to have access to it.

Alberta Health Services is the provincial health authority responsible for planning and delivering health supports and services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta. Its mission is to provide a patient-focused, quality health system that is accessible and sustainable for all Albertans.
