Drayton Valley Hospital and Care Centre Emergency Department to temporarily close overnight

July 5, 2023

DRAYTON VALLEY — The Drayton Valley Hospital and Care Centre Emergency Department (ED) will be temporarily without physician coverage from 11 p.m. on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 to 8 a.m. on Thursday, July 6, 2023.

As a result, the ED will be temporarily closed overnight beginning at 10:30 p.m on Wednesday,  July 5, 2023 to allow for any patients in the department to be seen and treated while a physician is available.

Patients presenting to the site seeking ED services overnight will be assessed by nursing staff who will remain in the department during the closure. First aid care will be provided if needed and depending on their condition, patients will be referred to other facilities or care options.

EMS will transport patients to other facilities if needed, including to the Devon General Hospital (104 KM away), Leduc Community Hospital (105 KM away, and Westview Health Centre in Stony Plain (99 KM away). Residents are reminded to call Health Link at 811, which is available 24/7, for non-emergency, health-related questions.

All other services continue to operate normally at the hospital during this ED closure.

AHS is grateful for the support of local physicians who have helped to minimize this disruption for the community. We are also appreciative of the support of surrounding healthcare centres and staff, and would like to thank the community for its understanding during this time.
