Myron Thompson Health Centre Emergency Department to temporarily close

December 22, 2023

SUNDRE – Due to a sudden gap in physician coverage, the Myron Thompson Health Centre Emergency Department (ED) will temporarily be closed overnight, from 6 p.m. until 8 a.m. the following morning, on the following dates this month:

The ED will also be temporarily closed during the day, from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. on both December 28 and 29.

These closures are a last resort after all options to find alternative coverage have been exhausted. In the event that coverage is secured in the coming days, the community will be updated.

Nursing staff will remain in the ED during the closures to assess any patients who present to the site seeking care. They will provide first aid where needed and refer patients to alternate care facilities in surrounding communities, including the Olds Hospital and Care Centre, Didsbury District Health Services and Rocky Mountain House Health Centre as needed.

EMS will be available to transport patients to other facilities depending on their condition.

All other services at the site will continue to operate as normal. Inpatient units are not affected by the temporary ED closure.

We are thankful for the support of surrounding healthcare centres and medical staff and would like to thank the community for their patience and understanding during this time.
